DIY TUTORIAL – MY PORTFOLIO
A guide for beginners |
MY MENU - MY PORTFOLIO
This is where you’re able to keep track of the purchases and sales you make.
All orders that you place through the Direct Broking website or over the
telephone will be recorded in your Portfolio.
Those that you place with another broker will not be recorded so need to be
added manually.
To add a new line of stock, click on the red button that has been circled in
blue, “New Movement”
|
 |
ADD PORTFOLIO MOVEMENT
Type in the stock code, select the “Movement Type” and then click “Go”
|
 |
Type in the date you purchased the shares, the quantity you purchased and how
much you paid for them.
If you can recall the brokerage charge then enter it into the table, however
it’s not compulsory.
When you’re done, click “Go”
|
 |
PORTFOLIO MOVEMENTS
In this screen you’ll be able to see a list of movements made in your portfolio
for this stock.
Gradually you can build up the movements in your portfolio by trading online
(movements are added automatically by the system) or by manually creating lines
to represent previous trades that you’ve done.
Click “Return” to go back to the main Portfolio view.
|
 |
EDIT OR DELETE EXISTING MOVEMENTS
If you need to change details of a line you’ve entered or if you want to
completely remove a line, click on the “movements” link circled in blue below.
|
 |
From here, select “delete” or “edit” for the line you need to change.
|
 |
EDIT PORTFOLIO MOVEMENT
Now you can correct or change any of the details that you gave the first time
around.
When you’ve given the correct information click “Go”
|
 |
You’ll see that the line you changed is now at the bottom of your portfolio.
This is due to the fact that it was the last line to be added and/or updated.
Click “Return” to go back to the main Portfolio view.

 |
FIXED INTEREST SECURITIES – EDIT OR DELETE PORTFOLIO MOVEMENT
If you need to delete or alter a movement for Fixed Interest securities you will see this message:
|
 |
You are unable to edit or delete existing Fixed Interest movements; instead you’ll need to create an equal but opposite movement from that shown to clear the position in your portfolio.
If your portfolio shows a BUY of 1,000 BNB010 and you need to correct it to show a BUY of 1,500 BNB010, you first need to create a SELL movement for 1,000 BNB010 before adding the new (correct) movement of 1,500 BNB010.
It is very important that all factors are correct before you click “Go” to submit the movements – the date, quantity and yield must match the original movement.
Please contact our Wholesale team on 0800 800 372 if you have queries or concerns.

AUSTRALIAN SHARES - ADD PORTFOLIO MOVEMENT
When you’re purchasing ASX shares through our website the correct data (share
price, exchange rate etc) will be loaded into our system automatically.
However if you need to manually create a line to represent a previous trade
there is a little more work involved.
Enter the movement date, quantity and price as normal, remembering that the
price must be quoted in AUD.
The next part of the table will require an exchange rate if you paid for the
Australian shares with NZD – see below
(PLEASE NOTE: THE EXCHANGE RATE USED BELOW IS JUST AN EXAMPLE)
To calculate the Settlement price per share (N$25.90) you need to divide the
AUD price per share ($22.69) by the exchange rate ($0.8758).
Click “Go” when you’re done, and remember that you can always go back to “edit”
the line if you haven’t done your sums correctly!
|
 |
When you return to the main “Portfolio” view you’ll see that your portfolio has
been split into two markets – NZX and ASX.
The data for ASX shares you’ve just added looks a little different; this is
because you paid for ASX shares with NZD.
The Market Price and Market Value are quoted in AUD but there is also an NZD
equivalent of the Market Value – circled in blue.
